Teutates
The first deity from our Celtic mythology series is Teutates, an Amber Ale with spelt malt and refined with linden blossoms.
The third deity from our Celtic mythology series is Cernunnos, a Kveik Pale Ale with spelt malt. Fruity, dry, fresh!
When the leaves change color and mist drifts through the woods, there is balance between day and night: It is the time of the autumn equinox. Now Cernunnos, the “Horned One”, takes over.
He is the mysterious god of the forest, the lord of the animals, and the guardian of the eternal cycle of becoming and passing away. In our animal series, he is represented by the majestic stag, who rules the autumn forests with his mighty antlers.
Cernunnos often sits cross-legged between the worlds, calm and yet full of wild energy. He reminds us that we are part of nature – connected to every tree and every animal. He is the untamed soul of the forest, now preparing for winter.
For the wild god of nature, we needed an ingredient that is not easily shackled. We brewed a Pale Ale that breathes the spirit of the forest.
As with all beers in our Celtic series, spelt malt forms the rustic foundation. But the true magic comes from the yeast: We used an original Kveik yeast. This ancient Norwegian farmhouse yeast works fast, warm, and brings forth a very distinct, “wild” fruitiness.
The result is a beer as dry and clear as the cool autumn air, but simultaneously subtly fruity and vibrant. It is an untamed brew that unites the wildness of Cernunnos and the earthiness of the spelt in perfect harmony. A beer for those who hear the call of the wild.
I am the guardian of the animals, the forests, and the wild breath of the earth.
