When winter yields and day and night are in perfect balance for a brief moment (spring equinox), the world awakens to new life. This is the time of Teutates, the “Father of the People”.

As protector of the community, god of war, and guarantor of prosperity, the ancient Celts honored him to seek his mighty assistance. In our series of the four Celtic animal beings, he is represented by the ram.

No other animal better embodies the irrepressible, almost stubborn power of spring, which wants to smash through walls to assert new life. The ram stands for the combative new beginning, fertility, and the determined energy with which Teutates defends and advances his tribe.

The Beer

To honor this cycle of powerful awakening, we have brewed an Amber Ale that is deeply rooted in history.

As the unifying element of our entire Celtic series, we use spelt malt here. Spelt was one of the main grains of the Celts – a robust ancient grain that swayed in our fields millennia ago. It gives the beer a nutty, rustic character with a firm body – fitting for the stature of the ram.

But spring doesn’t just taste of grain, it also tastes of blossoms. We refined this brew with real linden blossoms. The linden tree was a sacred tree of the community. Its blossoms give the full-bodied malt backbone a fragrant, floral lightness. A sip that tells history and awakens the spirits.
