The Legend

Our first Egyptian deity is the creator goddess Tjenemit, she who brings the beer!

Long before the pyramids rose into the sky, there was grain – and beer. In Egyptian mythology, it is Tjenemit who is considered one of the creator goddesses. Her name is inextricably linked with brewing; she is “She who brings the beer”.

For the ancient Egyptians, beer was more than just a beverage. It was food, currency, and medicine all at once. The workers on the great monuments were paid in beer, and Tjenemit watched over every kettle. She ensured that the “liquid bread” not only quenched thirst but also unfolded healing powers. Without her blessing, one of humanity’s first great civilizations would probably have died of thirst before it could write history.

The Beer

To honor the “Mother of Beer” and the inventors of organized agriculture, we begin our Egyptian series with a style that is as nourishing and down-to-earth as the Nile Delta itself: A Brown Ale.

As a special feature of this series, we use a specific type of flakes in every brew to honor the agricultural pioneering work of the Egyptians. For Tjenemit, we chose flaked barley.

These flakes give the beer a wonderful creaminess and a full body. The result is a gift from the goddess: A sweetish-malty ale with notes of caramel and toasted bread. It is not a beer for a quick thirst, but a liquid reward for a job well done – nutritious, healing, and divinely good.

Taste of it, your reward for hard work. May it strengthen you and heal your illnesses, for I have brought it to you.
