Demeter
The mother goddess of the Greeks Demeter receives from us a fine fruity, citrusy Golden Ale.
Our Altbier is tailor-made for the god of time, Chronos.
Before Zeus ascended Mount Olympus and Poseidon parted the seas, there was time. Chronos is personified time itself – unstoppable, eternal, and omnipresent.
He is no mere figure of history, but the river on which we all drift. Chronos rules over the three dimensions of existence: The past, which is irretrievable; the present, which is fleeting; and the future, which has yet to be written. In the Greek Orphic tradition, he is even considered one of the primordial gods from whom everything else could arise. He reminds us that nothing stands still and every moment is precious – especially the one spent with a good glass in hand.
What better to dedicate to the ruler of the eons than a beer style that takes his name literally? Our Altbier is a tribute to constancy.
“Alt” (old) refers here to the old, traditional brewing method that has survived for centuries, long before modern lagers conquered the world. Like Chronos, this style connects past, present, and future: A recipe created hundreds of years ago, still loved today, and which will continue to have a firm place in beer culture in the future.
In the glass, it presents itself in a beautiful, deep dark brown – like the unfathomable depth of time. In terms of taste, we brewed this German classic exactly as it should be: Malt-forward, but with that typical, pleasant bitterness that lingers long. A beer you should take your time for.
Time is the path we are on.
