Nanã Buruku
Our first goddess from African mythology is named Nanã Buruku. She receives a fine Coconut Cream Ale.
The velvety depth of the underworld. A complex Red Porter with malty sweetness, caramel notes, and a touch of Sorachi Ace as a link to creation.
Where Izanagi formed the land, it was Izanami who gave it life. As the primordial mother and goddess of creation, she gave birth to the islands of Japan and the gods of nature. But every creation carries the seed of transience within it. During the birth of the fire god, Izanami suffered such severe burns that she had to leave the world of the living and descend into Yomi, the gloomy realm of the dead.
There she transformed. The radiant creator became the relentless mistress of the underworld. When Izanagi tried to free her from the realm of the dead and, contrary to her prohibition, lit a light, he saw her new, shadowy visage. Terrified, he fled and sealed the entrance to Yomi with a massive boulder. In her anger, Izanami swore to take a thousand souls into her realm every day – to which Izanagi replied that he would create fifteen hundred new ones daily. Thus, Izanami became the guardian of the eternal cycle of becoming and passing away.
Our Red Porter is the dark answer to the radiant purity of Izanagi. It is a beer that unites the warmth of life with the deep shadows of mythology.
In the glass, it shimmers in a deep ruby red to chestnut brown – a visual homage to the fire of creation and the earth of the underworld. The body is soft and full-bodied, characterized by an intense malty sweetness and rich caramel notes that recall the security of the maternal primordial goddess.
But the secret hides in the finish: A targeted addition of Sorachi Ace provides a delicate citrus freshness and herbal complexity. It is the same hop we used for Izanagi. This flavor bond reminds us that creation and death belong inextricably together. A Porter that is not bitter, but comforting and profound – like a hug from the darkness.
I am the mother who gave life and now guards the silence. My realm is the night, my power is eternity. Whoever drinks from my cauldron understands the balance of the world.
