Nanã Buruku
Our first goddess from African mythology is named Nanã Buruku. She receives a fine Coconut Cream Ale.
How a simple requirement became a profound beer.
Sometimes life writes the best stories – or in this case, the Bar-Wagen Verein Künten. When they visited us to brew their own beer, there was only one single, unshakeable condition for the design: There must be a turtle on it.
We dug deep into ancient scriptures and found what we were looking for in the Far East. Genbu (or Xuanwu) is one of the four guardians of the sky in Chinese and Japanese mythology. He is the “Black Tortoise of the North,” often depicted in combat or in a close embrace with a snake.
Genbu is more than just an animal; he is a symbol of longevity, stability, and the “Unity of Opposites.” The hard, grounded shell of the tortoise and the swift, supple snake unite to form a perfect balance of Yin and Yang.
For this symbol of harmony, we brewed a beer together with the association that reflects exactly this balance in the glass: an Amber Ale.
Like Genbu himself, this beer unites opposites into a harmonious whole. On one side stands the solid malt body with notes of caramel and toasted bread – as constant and grounding as the tortoise’s shell. On the other side, a fine hop bitterness and a subtle fruitiness snake through, breathing life into the beer.
Created in a joint brewing session, the Genbu is not just a drink, but the liquid result of friendship and cooperation. A beer that connects.
In the silence I guard the balance between shadows and flames
